The Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event among athletes representing countries from Asia. The first games were held in 2008 in Bali, Indonesia, and after that were held every two years up until 2016. There is at least a seven year break until the next Games which may be held in 2023 (postponed from 2020).
The sports at the Asian Beach Games are mostly beach or water sports, including popular beach sports such as beach volleyball and beach football, beach running, as well as sports competing on the water such as swimming, sailing, water skiing, jet ski and dragon boat racing.
The Games have proved popular for hosts countries, spectators and athletes, due to the low expenditure with the use of temporary venues and making use of the natural resources of sand and sea.
