The Asian Beach Games

The Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event among athletes representing countries from Asia. The first games were held in 2008 in Bali, Indonesia, and after that were held every two years up until 2016. There is a large break until the next Beach Games which is scheduled to be held in 2026 in Sanya, China.

The sports at the Asian Beach Games are mostly beach or water sports, including popular beach sports such as beach volleyball and beach football, beach running, as well as sports competing on the water such as swimming, sailing, water skiing, jet ski and dragon boat racing.

The Games have proved popular for hosts countries, spectators and athletes, due to the low expenditure with the use of temporary venues and making use of the natural resources of sand and sea.

The next Asian Beach Games

The 6th Asian Beach Games was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, in Sanya in China, however, due to China canceling all international sporting events for 2020, it was postponed to 2023, and finally an event will be held in 2026 at the same location.

The 2026 Games will include  (22 Disciplines).

  3. Marathon Swimming (2008–2010, 2014+)
  4. Beach athletics (2014+)
  5. Dragon boat (2008, 2010, 2026)
  6. Sports climbing (extreme sports)
  7. Beach soccer (2008+)
  8. Beach Woodball (2008-2016, 2026)
  9. Beach handball (2008+)
  10. Beach kabaddi (2008+)
  11. Beach volleyball (2008+)
  12. Beach wrestling 2008, 2014+
  13. Powerboating (2026)
  14. Paramotoring (Powered paragliding) (2012, 2014, 2026)
  15. Aquathlon (2026) — a continuous race involving swimming followed by running.
  16. Sailing (2008–2014, 2026)
  17. Kite surfing (2026)
  18. Wind surfing (2008, 2026)
  19. Ju-jitsu (2014, 2016, 2026)
  20. Surfing (2008, 2026)
