FIFA World Cup Prizes

For the winners of the FIFA World Cup, the ultimate prize is lifting the FIFA World Cup Trophy at the end of the tournament, plus for individuals there are many awards such as the golden boot, ball and glove.

Though the trophy itself would be worth millions, the winning team does not get to keep it, they are presented with a replica. However, for players winning the world cup it can result in increased fame and publicity, leading to lucrative sponsorship advertising deals and possibly hefty contracts.

There are also cash prizes for the teams and players at the world cup. The winning team of the 2022 World Cup will receive $42 million, plus smaller amounts for other participating teams. The prize money is given to each country’s national FIFA federation. These organizations then determine how the winnings will be distributed, and how much will go to each individual player.

The first world cup when FIFA officially announced how much prize money each team will get was in 1982. At that time a total of $20 million was allocated as total prize money, from which $2.2 million was given to the winners. The winning team in 2022 will receive $42 million.
