All about the men’s 1500m at the 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch New Zealand. This has to be one of the greatest 1500m races of all time. Filbert Bayi of Tanzania raced to the front and took it to the rest of the field.
He held on to win in a time of 3:32.2 – a new world record by almost a full second. Local boy John Walker was happy with his second place, also beating the previous world record.

A dominating performance by English runner Steve Cram at the 1986 Commonwealth Games 800m men held in Edinburgh, Scotland. His winning time was 1:42.22, a new Commonwealth Games record and and as the commentator said, it was the fastest time of the year to that point.

Ben Johnson wins by ‘a mile’ in the men’s 100m sprint event. His time was 9.79 seconds. He was very quickly stripped of his win as he tested positive to performance enhancing drugs.
