Here is a video of a very impressive 40 inch (102 cm) vertical jump by Frank Yang in January 2007. The vertical jump measurement method used is the timing mat technique, specifically the Just Jump System. When using this technique, you must ensure the athlete lands back on the mat with both legs nearly fully extended. Landing with the legs bent will result in a longer hang time recorded, and can give incorrect larger scores.

This method is using a manual method of collecting the expired gases, rather than using a ventilometer to measure the expired air volume and automated systems to collect samples of the expired air.
