Upper Body Skinfold Landmarks

Dr Exercise give the low down on the landmarks used for the common skinfold meaurements of the upper body. He uses a skeleton to demonstrate the boney landmarks to help you understand what points of the body to use to accurately and consistently measure the skinfold meaurements. It is a long video but well worth having a look.

Demonstration of Skinfold Sites

This is a clear demonstration of the skinfold measurement sites: biceps, pectoralis, iliac crest, abdominal, triceps and subscapular. The assessor is using a Slim Guide Skinfold Caliper which provide good accurate measurements of skinfolds. It is best to mark all measurement sites prior to testing, though experienced examiners like the one here here can go by feel and perform the measurements more quickly.

FitnessGram Backsaver Sit and Reach Test

Here is a demonstration of the Back-Saver Sit and Reach test, and is one of the many tests used by the School Fitnessgram Program. The back saver sit and reach flexibility test is different from the traditional sit and reach test as it assesses one leg at a time, rather than both legs straight.

How Not to Perform a Sit and Reach Test

A demonstration of a few of the incorrect ways of doing the sit and reach test. You must hold the position for two seconds, no jerky movements and the knees have to remain straight. In this video the knees are held down using a strap, which is not commonly used but seems effective.

Here is a clear demo of the sit and reach test. Notice that he does not remove his shoes. This test is usually performed with shoes off, as the thickness of the base of the shoes will affect the score. Also, this sit and reach box has the zero mark at the level of the feet, which not all of them have.

The Chin Up or Pull Up is quite a simple exercise, but it is often not performed well. Here are a few guys doing a maximum chin up test in the gym, and you can see how some do not quite get their chin up over the bar, while another does not straighten their arms. When conducting a chin up fitness test, it is important ot get the subject to perform the exercise correctly so that the results are meaningful and the test can be replicated and improvements noted.

Soccer Testing with OptoJump

Complete Push-Up Test with Fist
