Morocco reached the semi-final at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but lost 0-2 to France. The team also lost 1-2 to Croatia in the third place match of the competition.
2026
Morocco qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and were drawn into Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. They reached the quarter-finals.
Morocco finished second in Group C, drawing 1–1 with Brazil, beating Scotland 1–0, and defeating Haiti 4–2. In the Round of 32, they drew 1–1 with the Netherlands and won 3–2 on penalties, with goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou saving the decisive spot-kick.
The Atlas Lions also beat co-hosts, Canada 3–0 in the Round of 16 (Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice), before their run ended with a 0–2 defeat to France in the quarter-finals.

- Tunisia was the first team to win a qualifying match on penalty shootout, when they won 4:2 on penalties over Morocco after a 1:1 tie at home on 9 Jan 1977.
- At the 2026 World Cup, Morocco again beat a European heavyweight on penalties, edging the Netherlands 3–2 in a Round of 32 shootout after a 1–1 draw, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou making the decisive save.
- Morocco qualified for the women's FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2023.
