2009 World T20 in England

The 2nd edition of the ICC World Twenty20 was in England in 2009. The tournament included 12 teams, playing 27 matches.

The tournament included nine of the ten Test-playing nations and three associate nations. Zimbabwe pulled out of the tournament in 2008, which created an additional space for an associate nation. The three qualifiers were Ireland, the Netherlands and Scotland.

In the group stage the 12 teams were divided into four groups of three. The top two teams from these groups went through to the second stage of the tournament, the Super Eight. These eight teams played in two groups of four. The two top teams from each Super Eight group qualified for the knock-out semi-finals.

The final of the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 was played at Lords Cricket Ground, Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets.
