USA at the T20 World Cup

The USA played in the T20 World Cup tournament for the first time in 2024. The USA was one of the host nations for the 2024 tournament (co-hosting with the West Indies), and as host nation they automatically qualified.

The USA team played well above expectations, and consequently improved the profile of cricket in the USA.

Their first match in the 2024 tournament against Canada was a replay of the first ever international cricket match, which was played between teams from Canada and the USA in 1844. The USA won this match, as well as their second match against Pakistan in what the headlines called “the biggest upset in World Cup history”.

The USA made it through to the final 8, and thereby secured an automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
