The men’s marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games in Germany was won by Japanese runner Kee-Chung Sohn. He was actually Korean-born but ran in Japanese colors because his country was occupied by Japan at the time. Here is a classic 10-minute movie recording of the marathon. The men’s marathon at the 1908 Athens Olympic Games was won by US runner John hayes. Italian Dorando Pietri needed to be helped across the finish line, and was initially declared the winner before being disqualified in favor of Johnny Hayes of the USA.
