World Cup Fair Play Trophy

The winner's list of the World Cup Fair Play Trophy. This FIFA World Cup Award is given to the team with the best record of fair play during the World Cup final tournament. There has been an award since 1970. Peru won the first award after receiving no yellow or red cards in the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

There is also a FIFA Fair Play Award (not linked to the World Cup) given out annually since 1987 in recognition of behavior that promotes the spirit of fair play in association football around the world. It can be presented to individuals, teams, fans, spectators, and football associations.

Only teams that qualify for the 2nd round are considered. Brazil has won the award four times, Spain and England three times. In 2006 and 1998, the trophy was awarded to two teams.

The Award

At first, the winners of this award were given a certificate. From 1982 to 1990, it had been a golden trophy based on a football-playing cartoon character, Sport Billy, who was an icon for FIFA Fair play. Since 1994, the trophy that is awarded depicts an elegant footballer figure. In addition to the trophy, also presented is a diploma, a fair play medal for each player, and a prize of $50,000 worth of football equipment to be used for youth development.
