Montenegro at the World Cup

Up until 2003, players from this region represented Yugoslavia. Between 2003 and 2006, two former republics of Yugoslavia played international football as Serbia & Montenegro. Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in 2006, with Serbia's team seen by FIFA as the direct descendant of the Yugoslavia national team.

The first official competition that the Montenegro national team competed in was the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying. In 2014 qualifying, they finished 3rd in their group. Montenegro are yet to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals.
