Haiti has qualified for the FIFA world Cup on just one occasion, in 1974. They lost all three games in the group stage, against three of the pre-tournament favorites; Italy, Poland, and Argentina, allowing through 14 goals while scoring 2. However, prior to that, Haitian football player Joe Gaetjens represented the USA at the 1950 World Cup, and memorably scored the winning goal in the 1–0 victory over England.
