Czechoslovakia at the World Cup
Czechoslovakia existed as a sovereign state in Central Europe between October 1918 and January 1993. Players from this region now represent the countries of Czech Republic and Slovakia.
- They had reached the Final in 1934, where they lost to Italy 2-1 in extra time after leading 1-0.
- Prior to 1998, Czechoslovakia had qualified no less than eight times and twice Czechoslovakia had to settle for the runners-up trophy.
- The Czechs also reached the final in 1962 and faced Brazil. Once again, Czechoslovakia took the lead but once again they succumbed as Brazil claimed a 3-1 victory.
