Canada first played at the FIFA World Cup in 1986. In 2022, Canada qualified for the World Cup for the second time, ending a 36-year drought. In their second match at Qatar 2022, Canada made history with their first ever goal at the men's tournament finals, however it was not enough to stop them being eliminated.

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Canada automatically qualified due to being co-hosts, and went on to reach the Round of 16 for the first time.

1986

2022

Canada lost all its three group games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and didn't progress to the next stage of the competition.

2026

Canada, as co-hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, qualified automatically and were drawn into Group B alongside Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After a 1–1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening game, Canada recorded their first ever World Cup win in emphatic style, thrashing Qatar 6–0 with a Jonathan David hat-trick. A 2–1 defeat to Switzerland in the final group game left them as runners-up.

In the Round of 32, Canada beat Group A runners-up, South Africa 1–0 to reach the last 16 for the first time in their history, where their run was ended by a 0–3 loss to Morocco.
