The UEFA Champions League is an annual football club competition played between the European national league champions and other top clubs from Europe. At the time it was called the European Champion Clubs' Cup (though commonly known as the "European Cup").
This was the first European Cup where penalty shoot-outs were introduced.
The final of the 1971 European Cup was played at Wembley Stadium, London, England on June 2, 1971. The match was won by Ajax, Netherlands.
