Back Skinfold

The back skinfold site is one of the less common locations used for the assessment of body fat using skinfold calipers. A few different descriptions of back locations for taking skinfolds have been found. See the complete list of skinfold sites, and the general procedure for taking skinfold measurements.

Site 1: Lower Back

• directly over the kidney, two inches to the right of spine
• horizontal pinch

Site 2: Lower Back

• on the right side, between the kidney and the spine.

Site 3: Upper back

• Vertical pinch the skin between the scapula and spine
