The Fittest 50 Men (Sports Illustrated, 2017)

Who is the fittest male athlete in sports? A panel of experts was recruited by the magazine Sports Illustrated to list who they consider the current fittest athletes in sports in 2017 - what they called the "Fittest 50".

Athletes were considered based on performances in the previous 12 months, and factoring the demands and risks of their respective sports, training regimens, longevity and physical benchmarks, including: speed, strength, endurance, agility, flexibility and power.

In the male category, they have footballer Cristiano Ronaldo at the top, for the females it was gymnast Simone Biles (see the 2017 female list). Sports Illustrated have also created similar lists in 2014, 2016 and 2019. The website Health Fitness Revolution made a similar fittest athlete list for 2017, and placed Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps at the top.
