In the early years, children in Portugal, built, discovered, played, and had fun creating their own games with their own materials from their environment.

Piāo and Jogos Das Latas are some of the most popular traditional games of Portugal. Piāo or spinning top in English is a game using a top where the goal of the player is to knock over the other player’s tops and must be the last top spinning to be considered winner. Jogos Das Latas is a can game. The cans are placed on top of each, forming a pyramid. The players have 3 turns to knock down as many cans as possible. The player who takes down most cans is the winner.

Over time, Portugal developed various sports activities and one of the most popular sports in their country is football. A good number of skilled athletes from Portugal are well-known across the globe. The list includes Cristiano Ronaldo who currently captains the Portugal National team. With 50 international goals, he became the country’s top goal scorer of all time. Cristiano was also regarded to be the best football player in the world.

A big sporting event called the Portugal Tennis Open are much awaited by the Portuguese. The event is started in 1989 with only the women can join and only followed with the men’s tournament in the year 1990.
