Volfsball
The new sport of Volfsball was created by Marek Larwood from England in 2014. Volfsball is a three aside, non-contact sport played on a circular pitch. It is a cross between, basketball, football, netball and cricket. Points are scored by throwing or kicking the ball at the Volfsball stand, or through the Volfsball hoop, which is placed in the middle of a playing field.
Equipment Required
- Volfsball Stand - triangular column measuring approximately six feet. It should move freely when hit but not blow in the wind. At the top of the prism is a vertical hoop 14 inches* in diameter. The total height of the stand is just under 9ft.

Volfsball Key Rules
- The pitch is made up of three circles. The centre circles is 4 metres in diameter. The Volfsball stand is in the centre of this circle. No player can enter this area unless play is ruled dead and the ball has landed there.
- The middle circle is three metres wide and is outside the centre circle, it is occupied by the team that is defending. The outer circle is occupied by the attacking team
- The attacking team may throw or kick the ball anywhere within their region in order to shoot at the Volfsball stand. Once they have the ball they may not run with it.
- If the players catch the ball they can pivot on one foot but may not move. If they do move or jump more than once, they are penalised for traveling (like basketball) and possession is handed to the other team.
- If the players kick the ball they are allowed two touches of the ball, i.e. one to stop it, one to shoot. Any more than two touches and possession is handed to the other team.
- Each quarter is three minutes long, the attacking team has 15 seconds in which to take a shot otherwise the defending team is given possession of the ball. Only in the final quarter is the clock stopped during play – and then only in the last 30 seconds every time the balls leaves the circles.
- Play starts by one attacking player standing outside of the circle. He can move around the outside of the attacking circle and choose where to pass the ball into play. The clock starts as soon as the player he has passed to touches the ball.
- After a shot the attacking team only regain control of the ball if it rebounds or lands back into their area. If the ball lands in any other area or is stopped by the defending team, they gain possession of the ball. They can then all run to the very outline of the outer circle. Once all players are on the line and they have shouted “Neue Startte” (New Start). They become the attacking ream.
- No player is allowed to step outside of their area. If a player steps out of their designated attacking or defending area, they lose possession of the ball.
- If a player in the defending area blocks or interferes with a shot by entering the no go area, the attacking team are awarded a free shot from anywhere in their zone, plus possession of the ball. If the player blocks a shot and lands in the no-go area this counts as a penalty and the same free shot and possession rule applies.
- If a player blocks a ball but lands in the attacking zone in the same blocking motion, the ball is given back to the attacking team.
- Intentional blocking of shots by entering the no go area will result in a free throw & possession for the other team, plus a yellow card for the defending team.
- Players are not allowed to run through the no-go zone during the game. Repeated infringement will result in a yellow card.
Playing Rules
- If a player shoots from the attacking circle but lands in the defending circle the score still counts, but possession is given to the other team even if they receive the rebound.
- The player must shoot before the shooting clock or time elapses. If the player shoots and the ball is still in the air once time has elapsed any points from this shot still count.
- Players may lift up other players in the defending circle to help block shots. Players may not lift players within the attacking circle to help shoot.
Scoring
- One point for hitting the Volfsball column with a throw.
- Three points for hitting the Volfsball column with a kick or head.
- Five points for throwing the ball through the Volfsball Hoop, if this is scored players shout ‘Volfsball!’
- Ten points for kicking or heading the ball through the Volfsball Hoop, this is known as a ‘DoppleVolfsball’.
