- The 'Featherie' golf ball, which were thin, leather bags stuffed with feathers, was introduced in 1618. More about Golf Balls.
- King James II of Scotland banned golf in 1457 because he believed it was distracting soldiers from archery practice.
- Oldest Major Tournament – The Open Championship (British Open) is the oldest golf tournament, first played in 1860 at Prestwick in Scotland, with a field of just eight players.
- Golf the only sport that has been played on the moon. On 6 February, 1971, Alan Shepard hit a golf ball while on the moon.
- Golf has been played at the Olympic Games in 1900 and 1904. More information about Golf at the Olympics. As part of this competition there was a putting event, but this has since been taken off the official list of Olympic Sports by the IOC.
