Uzbekistan qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first time the nation had ever reached the finals and making them the first Central Asian country to play at a World Cup. They sealed their place in June 2025 with a goalless draw against the United Arab Emirates, confirming qualification with a game to spare.

At the finals, they were drawn into Group K alongside Portugal, Colombia, and DR Congo. Uzbekistan lost all three of their matches and finished bottom of the group, beaten by Colombia, Portugal, and DR Congo. Their debut game ended winless, with both Colombia and DR Congo advancing from the group.
