Türkiye / Turkey at the World Cup
Turkey have played in the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1954 and 2002. In 1954, they did not progress past the group stage, finishing in ninth position. In 2002, Turkey finished third. They were defeated 1–0 to eventual tournament winners Brazil in the semi-final, then in the bronze medal match defeated co-hosts South Korea 3–2.
Trivia
- The first country to be progress by the toss of coin in the qualifying round was Turkey, which beat Spain on toss after a 2:2 tie in a play-off match on 17 March 1954.
