Ivory Coast qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and were drawn into Group E alongside Germany, Ecuador, and Curaçao. The Elephants opened with a 1–0 win over Ecuador, thanks to a late Amad Diallo goal, then lost 2–1 to Germany before a Nicolas Pépé brace secured a 2–0 win over debutants, Curaçao.

That result made them progress into second place, sending Ivory Coast into the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time in their history. In the Round of 32, they pushed Norway hard but fell to a dramatic late Erling Haaland winner, losing 2–1.
