2004 Tour de France
The 2004 Tour de France, the 91st edition of the race, comprised 20 stages and a prologue, covering a total distance of approximately 3,391 kilometers (2,107 miles). The race began in Liège, Belgium, with a prologue time trial and concluded in Paris on the Champs-Élysées.
American cyclist Lance Armstrong won the 2004 Tour de France, securing his sixth consecutive victory, a record-breaking achievement at the time. Armstrong won five stages, including both mountain stages and time trials, displaying a level of dominance that had rarely been seen before. Armstrong took the yellow jersey after the 15th stage, a mountain stage to the summit finish at Villard-de-Lans. H Armstrong finished the race with a commanding lead of over six minutes ahead of German cyclist Andreas Klöden, who finished second, while Italian Ivan Basso took third place on the podium.
Trivia
- The original winner of this tour was US rider Lance Armstrong, however after being found guilty of doping by the USADA in 2012, he was stripped of this and all the other titles.
