At the Beijing Olympic Games there were 28 sports on the program, the same as the previous two Olympic Games. The 10km Open Water Swimming event was an Olympic event for the first time in 2008. Also, Baseball and Softball were played for the last time at the 2008 Games. BMX racing (as part of cycling) made its debut in Beijing.
