Laos' governing body for most of their international sporting event participation is the National Olympic Committee of Lao which was established in 1975 and recognized by the international Olympic community in 1979. The very next year, they participated in the Summer Games for the first time with a 20-athlete delegation to compete in Moscow, USSR.
They will then miss the next Summer Olympics which was held in Los Angeles, California, USA and come back in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea with a considerably smaller delegation. As a matter of fact, their 1980 Olympic team is by far the largest that they had since their debut. After that, their delegation has never been with more than 6 athletes.
This may have contributed to the fact that Laos is yet to win their first-ever Olympic medal which also may have played a hand in why they never participated in the Winter Games.
