Bangladesh at the Olympics

Bangladesh established the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) in 1979 and is also the governing body for the country’s representation for other major international sporting events like the Commonwealth Games.

Bangladesh has never competed in the Olympics until the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, California, USA. Technically, Bangladeshi athletes have never “qualified” for the Summer Games but was however able to participate through the wildcard process in place for the Summer Games.

Bangladesh has a population of upwards of 150 million but they are yet to produce a single Olympic medalist. Their poor performance in the Summer Games since their debut in 1984 has been associated with the fact that they do not have a lot of resources for the training of their athletes. And this has been confirmed multiple times by the BOA.

Bangladesh has also never competed in the Winter Games.
