Here are some of the sporting highlights in the world of sport for 1929.

The grand slam events in women's tennis had the exact same results as the previous year. Daphne Akhurst Cozens won the Australian Open, followed by Helen Wills Moody winning all the other three grand slams, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Cozens won the Australian Open again the following year for a three-pete and her fifth and final slam title.

Bill Tilden won the US Open again for the seventh time, three year after his six consecutive wins at the event. Tilden, who has won the Wimbledon on three occasions, was not successful in the other two slam events, finished his career with 10 total slam titles.

Maurice De Waele of Belgium won the year's Tour de France event. Though he took only one stage in the tour, he won the race by a comfortable 44-minute margin.

Walter Hagen successfully defended his The Open Championship title from the previous year to earn his 11th career major title. He held the record for the most major titles won for four plus decades until Jack Nicklaus surpassed him in 1973. His record though still stands as the third all-time best.
