BRW Top 50 Sports Earners for 2001

Here are the top earning Australian sports people for the year 2001, as published by the Business Review Weekly (BRW) magazine. Just the top 10 of their "Top 50 Sports Earners" list is shown. The list is compiled by BRW journalists and includes gross wages, prize money, sponsorships and endorsements. Golfer Greg Norman has top spot again, as he has since the list began in 1997, though just five per cent of his earnings come from golf. There were four women in the top 50 - as well as golfer Karrie Webb ranked 10 below, there was golfer Rachel Teske (29th, $1.6 million), tennisplayer Rennae Stubbs (45th, $1.32 million) and runner Cathy Freeman (48th, $1.2 million). The highest ranked cricketer was Australian captain Steve Waugh, ranked equal 23rd with $1.8 million. Of the Australian footy codes, AFL had two representatives in the top 50, North Melbourne's Wayne Carey equal 31st and Essendon captain James Hird was 48th with $1.2 million. There were no rugby players in the top 50.
