1982 Commonwealth Games Clean and Jerk

Australian Dean Lukin in the 110kg+ weight lifting class winning the clean and jerk competition at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia. This footage shows him lifting 221 kg (487.2 lbs), a new Commonwealth Games record.

1974 Commonwealth Games 1500m Final

All about the men’s 1500m at the 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch New Zealand. This has to be one of the greatest 1500m races of all time. Filbert Bayi of Tanzania raced to the front and took it to the rest of the field.

He held on to win in a time of 3:32.2 – a new world record by almost a full second. Local boy John Walker was happy with his second place, also beating the previous world record.

1986 Commonwealth Games 800m Steve Cram

A dominating performance by English runner Steve Cram at the 1986 Commonwealth Games 800m men held in Edinburgh, Scotland. His winning time was 1:42.22, a new Commonwealth Games record and and as the commentator said, it was the fastest time of the year to that point.

Netball Highlights 2006 Commonwealth Games

Interesting view of some highlights from the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games netball tournament. No commentary, just the sports of sport – makes you feel like you are there. In the final, the world champion’s New Zealand defeated the reigning Commonwealth Games champion Australia 60 to 55.

Johnson wins Seoul 1988 Olympics Men’s 100m Final

Ben Johnson wins by ‘a mile’ in the men’s 100m sprint event. His time was 9.79 seconds. He was very quickly stripped of his win as he tested positive to performance enhancing drugs. Second in the race (eventual gold medalist) was Carl Lewis and 3rd was UK runner Linford Christie. See more on the History of the Olympics 100m sprint.

Jones wins Sydney 2000 Olympics Women's 100m Final

Marion Jones wins by a mile (well by 0.37 seconds margin) in the women’s 100m sprint event. Her time was 10.87 seconds. She was subsequently stripped of her medals years later after it was found out that she had taken performance enhancers.

Two-Handed Tennis

Two-Racket Tennis sounds unusual, but makes a lot of sense. If you have a pretty poor backhand, why not hold a racket in each hand and just hit forehands all day. You will also have a greater reach and reduce arm fatigue and be better balanced. It just cost a little more having to buy and extra tennis racket.

World Cup Final 1930 Silent Movie

Movie of the first ever FIFA World Cup Final from 1930. The movie is edited in the style of a silent movie, which makes you realize how long ago this event was held. It starts by introducing the players of Uruguay and Argentina before showing highlights of the game. The game was won by Uruguay 4:2.
