Nigeria at the Winter Olympic Games

Up until 2018, Nigeria had never sent a team to the Winter Olympic Games, however thatall changed in PyeongChang, South Korea.

A US-based trio of Nigerian women athletes qualified be the first African bobsled team at the Winter Olympics. Driver Seun Adigun and brakewomen Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere qualified for Pyeongchang 2018. Seun Adigun ran for Nigeria in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

They were not the only Nigerians to represent their country at these Olympics. Simidele Adeagbo will make history as the first female skeleton athlete from Africa. An ex-triple jumper, she was inspired by and wanted to join the bobsledders, then took up skeleton and qualified even though her first race ever was in November 2017.
