Tuvalu is a tiny Pacific Ocean country. Tuvalu was formerly half of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands (the Ellice side), situated east of Australia.Tuvalu is one of the youngest members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The nation finally made its first appearance at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and sent three athletes to compete in weightlifting and in the men’s and women’s 100-meter run evens in athletics, but unfortunately they all failed to secure a spot in the next round. The three athletes competed for the nation once again at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games, Tuvalu sent the smallest contingent with just one competitor in the men’s 100-meter sprint in athletics who happens to be Etimoni Timuani. Against tough rivals, Timuani failed to advance further in his event.
They are yet to win an Olympic medal.
