Singapore at the Commonwealth Games
Singapore is situated in South East Asia and lies just north of the Equator. It is separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the narrow Johor Straits. The name Singapore derives from the Sanskrit Singa Pura, 'City of the Lion'. Singapore has taken part in every Games since their debut in 1958. Singapore participated as a crown colony in 1958 and 1962, and as an independent Commonwealth country from 1966 onwards.
Trivia
- The Manchester Games in 2002 was their best ever appearance in terms of medals, four gold (badminton and table tennis) from a total of 13 medals.
- The most successful sport of the Singapore team in Table Tennis.
