India is the most populous country in the Commonwealth, though success has come slowly. In November 2003, the city of Delhi was awarded the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In the second ever Commonwealth Games to be held in an Asian country, India performed very well finishing high on the medal tally.

India at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

India finished fourth at Glasgow 2026, the first Commonwealth Games staged with a reduced program of 10 sports. India won 13 gold medals, along with 17 silver and 9 bronze (39 medals in total), once again the leading Asian nation at the Games.

India shared the same gold-medal count as fifth-placed Scotland, but was ranked ahead on the strength of its greater number of silver medals. The final medal standings for the leading nations are shown below.
