Law-enforcement recruits in Utah are required to undergo a fitness assessment as part of the recruitment process. Below is some information about the fitness test requirements and standards. Assessment Tests
When recruited, officers are required to reach certain physical standards through POST, the Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy. In 2007 ongoing testing for all employees was added, from patrol deputies to the sheriff himself, in which they have to perform the following tests and reach the standards listed below. There are no different requirements for men or women, nor for different ages.
- run a mile and a half in 16 minutes.
- Achieve 30 sit-ups.
- Achieve 15 push-ups in two minutes.
