What to Expect?
As AI continues to evolve and more real-world applications are created, fitness assessments will incorporate AI technology, with tests becoming more accessible, data-driven, and tailored to individual needs. Not only will the test be better designed, but more detailed results will be obtained, the analysis will be more comprehensive, and the interpretation tailored for each individual.
Enhancing Current Tests
The world of fitness testing with AI does not have to look a lot different to fitness testing today. We don't necessarily need new tests. As discussed in our article about the future of fitness testing, many assessors are reluctant to try new tests, preferring the tests they have experience using, are well-researched, and have available norms.
Many traditional tests that are in common use today can be enhanced with AI technology to improve accuracy, provide real-time feedback, and offer personalized insights.
Here are some common fitness tests that could benefit from AI integration:
- VO2 Max Test – In addition to the measures of oxygen consumption, AI can be used to better quantify if the maximum has been reached, and provide additional information about breathing patterns and heart rate variability to provide more than just a VO2 max score.
- Beep Test and Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test – during shuttle test, AI-powered wearables can track changes in pace, heart rate, and fatigue levels to provide deeper insights beyond just a final level result.
