Rugby Sevens is just like Rugby Union except for the fact that it has shorter time duration. It has seven players in both the teams. The duration of the game is 15 minutes with two halves of 7 minutes and a break of 1 minute. Rugby Sevens is played on Rugby Union playing field. The field is 100 meters long and 70 meters wide. There are H shaped goal posts on each goal line.
The team scores seven points for placing the ball on the try line and scores two points for a kick through the posts. Furthermore, the team gets three points for a penalty kick. The player can kick the ball forwards but cannot pass the ball or throw it forwards.
The game originated in Scotland. In 1883, a local butcher proposed a shorter version of Rugby Union along with a Rugby Union player. The first tournament was played in the same year. In 1973, Rugby sevens got international recognition. Rugby Sevens will be a part of Olympics 2016 where 12 teams will compete for the gold. Notable International competitions of Rugby Sevens are HSBC Sevens World Series and the Rugby World Cup Sevens.
