The Antarctic Ice Marathon takes place just a few hundred miles from the South Pole at the foot of the Ellsworth Mountains. It is the only marathon run in the interior of the Antarctic.
In this very challenging race, competitors have to run on snow and ice throughout, with an average windchill temperature of -20C, and the possibility of strong Katabatic winds. Not only that, the event takes place at an altitude of 700 meters.
The Antarctic Ice Marathon is the southernmost marathon on earth. Competitors have the opportunity to join the exclusive 7 Continents Marathon Club if they can combine this race with marathons on each of the other six continents.
The Antarctic Ice Marathon is organized by Global Running Adventures, who also organise the annual North Pole Marathon and the Volcano Marathon.
