The Synchronized Swimming program features the following competitions:

• Solo
• Duet
• Team of eight
• Combination routine (mixture of the solo, duet and team routine)

The competition has preliminaries in both the technical and free routine, with the highest scoring athletes progressing to the final.

The free routine is where the athlete has a choice in music and choreography, and in the technical routine the athletes / teams must perform a series of required components.
