Beijing, China

Beijing is the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games. It is the capital city of the People’s Republic of China, with some 3000 years of history. The city lies in the country's north-east. There are appoximately 14.5 million residents with the city limits extending some 80 kilometers. Within in the metropolitan area there is 7.5 million people.



As with many Chinese cities, there has been a recent history of traffic congestion and high pollution levels. Therefore, Beijing authorities have made air pollution their major priority in the lead up to the 2008 Games (more about the heat, traffic and pollution problem)

Tourist Attractions

Beijing is going to be in the world's spotlight for much of 2008. It is a great time to visit this wonderful city and experience the people, history and culture. Some of the places you should consider visiting are the Chairman Mao Mausoleum, the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City. For shopping head to Hong Qiao Pearl Amrket It is also not far to travel to see some of the Great Wall of China, a must see if you ever come to China.
