Ski Ballet (1988, 1992)

Ski ballet (now known as "acroski") involves athletes on skis performing various choreographed routines on a smooth slope. Ski ballet was demonstrated at two different Olympics, in 1988 in Calgary and then again in 1992 in Albertville.

The ski ballet routines included leg crossings, flips, jumps, spins, rolls and everything in between. Scores were given by a panel of judges, as in figure skating, on a combination of technical and artistic considerations.

The sport will not gain a place on the Winter Olympics program, as is no longer officially a part of freestyle skiing. The International Ski Federation ceased all formal competition of the sport in 2000.
