The country of Papua New Guinea (PNG) borders Indonesia and sits north of Australia and west of the Solomon Islands.

Papua New Guinea at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Papua New Guinea won a single bronze medal at Glasgow 2026, the first Commonwealth Games staged with a reduced program of just 10 sports, to finish in a tie for thirty-sixth on the medal table.

The medal came from weightlifter Morea Baru in the men's 65kg category, where his combined total of 282kg earned bronze behind Malaysia's gold medallist and India's Muthupandi. It was the first medal of the Games for any Pacific Islands nation and the third of Baru's career across five Commonwealth Games appearances. His younger brother Kevau Baru made his own Games debut in the men's 60kg on the same day, placing sixth while setting personal bests in the snatch, clean and jerk and total.
