Guernsey is the second largest of the Channel Islands and is situated some 80 miles south of the English mainland. The islands lie adjacent to the coast of France and the Bailiwick of Guernsey includes the smaller Channel Islands of Alderney, Sark, Herm and Jethou.

Guernsey at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Guernsey finished in a tie for thirty-first at Glasgow 2026, the first Commonwealth Games staged with a reduced program of 10 sports. Guernsey won a single silver medal, level on the medal table with Barbados.

The island sent a 20-strong team across athletics, boxing, lawn bowls and swimming. Its best-known athlete, 400m hurdler Alastair Chalmers finished sixth in the 400m hurdles final. The final medal standings, with Guernsey's placing, are shown below.

Trivia

  • The island has attended every Commonwealth Games since its debut at the Edinburgh Games of 1970.
  • Its first medals came in Brisbane in 1982, and first gold in 1990 when Adrian Breton won the mens individual rapid fire pistol competition.
