Belgrade 1973

  • The 1st FINA World Championships were held in the city of Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1973. In total 686 athletes competed from 47 different countries. Following name changes and changes to international borders, Belgrade is now situated in the country of Serbia.

  • The swimming program included 15 events for male athletes, and 14 events for female athletes. The events that were held were: swimming, men’s water polo, diving and synchronized swimming.

  • 696 athletes competed at the 1st FINA World Championships.
