Sport in Saarland

The Saar was a region of Germany that was occupied and governed by the United Kingdom and France from 1920 to 1935 under a League of Nations mandate, then from 1947 to 1956 the Saar was a French-occupied territory (the "Saar Protectorate") separate from the rest of Germany. Saarland rejoined Germany in 1957. See also about sport in Germany.

Sport wise, Saarland participated as a separate country at the 1952 Olympic Games, and in the qualifying for the 1954 FIFA World Cup.
