Here is a group of people performing a one-minute sit up test. They are using the technique of having their hands on their thighs, and sliding them up to their knees. Having the hands like this is a much more controlled method of doing the sit up, compared to some other methods where there is a lot of bouncing and erratic movements.

They are using the technique of having their feet held down (using something attached to the wall) and their arms across their chest. As you can see, it can be difficult to see what is a valid sit up, and also the erratic movements are potentially dangerous.
