Singapore Navy Fitness Testing

The Navy of Singapore requires new recruits to undergo fitness assessments as part of the recruitment process. Below is some information about the fitness requirements and standards. This information is presented for discussion - for up to date information see official sources.

Individual Physical Proficiency Test

The current Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) has five stations: the chin-up, standing broad jump, 4x10m shuttle, sit-up and the 2.4km run. Servicemen and women must achieve IPPT standards set according to their gender and age

The testing protocol is set to change, with every sailor in Singapore to undergo a new physical fitness test from about April 2014.

The test protocols have not changed since 1982, after originally being launched in 1979. The original testing protocols included half-knee bends and required participants to take the test in army t-shirts, slacks and boots. The new changes are expected to include the scrapping of the standing broad jump and adding push-ups. Servicemen will also have to run 3.2km instead of the current 2.4 km to test endurance.
