# Speedcubing

Speedcubing is a game in which players solve single piece 3D puzzles, by twisting the layers of the puzzle in different planes. In competitions, the objective is to solve the puzzles in the quickest time possible.

Though puzzles of different shapes are solved in speedcubing, the cube puzzles are the most common. Cube puzzles come in various forms depending on the number of layers in each plane of the cube. The most popular cube puzzle is the 3x3x3 Rubik's cube.

Rubik's cube attracts the most attention and participation in any speedcubing tournament. Besides speed solving, most tournaments have competitions for solving the Rubik's cube under various setups, like blindfolded solving, solving with one hand, solving with legs, and solving with the fewest number of moves.

Rubik's cube was invented in Hungary by professor Erno Rubik in 1974, which quickly became extremely popular and led to a World Championship event for solving Rubik's cubes to be conducted in less than eight years.

The World Championships continue to this date, being conducted biennially, with competitions for solving all types of puzzles. Besides the World Championships, speedcubing tournaments are conducted all through the year, at different locations throughout the world.

In most competitions each player solves a puzzle five times. Final timings for each player is calculated as the average of three attempts after disregarding the fastest and the slowest attempts. The player with the lowest average time is declared as the winner.
