- The Davis Cup championship started in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States.
- The competition was initially called the "International Lawn Tennis Challenge" although it soon became known as the "Davis Cup", named after Dwight Davis who bought the trophy with his own funds.
- Australasia (a combined team from Australia and New Zealand) became the first winners from outside of Britain and the United States when they won in 1907.
- No tournament was held in 1910, as no country challenged the title holders Australasia.
- Between 1937 and 1973, The USA and Australia where the only nations to win.
- In addition to the time of the two world wars, there has also been no event held in 1901, 1910 and 2020.
