Silambam is a traditional Tamil martial artĀ from India which mainly uses a bamboo staff.
There was an exhibition of silambam at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but no details of the competition have been found. Silambam was one of the four demonstration sports at Games, the others were Sepak Takraw, Silat and Wushu.
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the opening ceremony included an exhibition of many Indian martial arts, including Silambam.
The sport has never been on the official Commonwealth Games program.
